Function Description:

The Layer Properties Manager palette is used to display the layer list and their properties.
Users can add, remove, rename, change layer properties, set properties override for layout viewports or add descriptions for layer. They can apply all changes real time. Clicking OK or APPLY to view all properties changes. Users can use the filter to control which layers to display in the list, they can also change more than one layer in one time. When switching space (from the model space to paper space or from the paper space to viewports), the layer properties manager is updated and displays the current states of layer properties and layers selected by filter.

Dialog Box Options:

New Property Filter (Alt+P)

Displays the Layer Filter Properties dialog box, from which users can create a layer filter according to one or more properties.

New Group Filter (Alt+G)

Creates a new group filter, which including the selected and added layers.

Layer State Manager (Alt+S)

Displays the Layer States Manager dialog box. Users can save the current property settings to a named layer state and restore it for later use.

New Layer (Alt+N)

Creates a new layer. The name displays as LAYER 1. When the layer is chosen, users can enter its new name. The new layer inherits all properties of the currently selected layer, such as color, on or off states and so on. The new layer is created under the recently selected layer.

New Layer VP Frozen in All Viewports

Creates a new layer and freezes it in all viewports. Users can access this option in model or layout.

Delete Layer (Alt+D)

Deletes the selected layer. Users can only delete the unreferenced layers. The referenced layers contain layer 0 and DEFPOINTS, layers with objects (including objects in a block definition), the current layer and layer depending on external reference. Layers in partially opened drawing is regarded as reference and they can not be deleted.
Note: If the drawing is created by sharing project or based on a group of layer standards, users should be more careful when deleting layers in the drawing.

Set Current (Alt+C)

Sets the selected layer to be the current. The new object is created on the current layer. (CLAYER system variable)

Current layer

Displays the name of the current layer.

Search layer

Filters the layer list by layer name when you enter characters. The filter is not saved after closing the Layer Property Manager.

Status bar

Displays the name of the current filter, layer number in the list view and lay number in the drawing.

Invert filter

Displays all layers that do not meet the specified conditions in the Layer Property Filter.

Apply

Applies all changes on the layer and filter, but do not close the Layer Properties Manager dialog box. There are two windows in the Layer Properties Manager dialog box: Tree view and list view.

  • Tree view: Displays the hierarchical structure of the layer and filter in the drawing. The top node (All) displays all layers in the drawing. It displays all layers in the alphabetical order. The All Used layers filter is read-only.
    Unfold the top node, from which users can view all nested filters.
    Double-clicking the properties filter, users can open the Layer Filter Properties dialog box. Collapses/ Expands layer filter tree controls the display of layer filter window. If there attached external reference in the drawing, the Xref node displays all Xref names and each layers in Xref. The layer filter defined in Xref will not display. If there contains properties override layers, it will automatically create viewport override node and display all layers and their properties. The viewport override filter only display in the layout when accessing the Layer Properties Manager. After evaluation of layer list in last time, if there has added some new layers(according to settings of the LAYERNOTIFY system variable) in the drawing, it will automatically create new unreconciled layer filter and display new layers that need to be reconciled.
  • Tree view shortcut menu: Supply some commands for selecting options in tree view.
  • Visibility: Change the visibility states of all layers in selected filter(the "All" or "All used layers" filter, if selected corresponding filter)
    • On: Objects on layers could display, plot and regenerate, and users could use HIDE command to hide other objects.
    • Off: Objects on layers could not display and plot. Users could use HIDE command to hide other objects. It will not regenerate the drawing when opening the layer.
    • Thawed: Objects on layers could display and plot, and users could use HIDE command to hide other objects.
    • Frozen: Objects on layers could not display and plot. Users could use HIDE command to hide other objects. it will regenerate the drawing when thawing layers.
  • Lock: Control whether objects on layers in selected filter could be modified.
  • Lock: Any objects on layers could not be modified. Users could do any other operations except editing on objects on locked layers, including object snap.
  • Unlock: Users could modify objects on layers..
  • Viewport: In current layout viewport, it controls the layer settings in "frozen viewport" in selected layer filter. This option is unavailable in model space.
    • Freeze: Set the layers in filter to "Frozen viewport". In current viewport, it could not display and plot objects on layers, and users could use the HIDE command to hide other objects. It will regenerate the drawing when thawing layers.
    • Thaw: Clear settings of "Frozen viewport". In current viewport, it could display and plot objects on layers, and users could use the HIDE command to hide other objects. It could not thaw layers which set to "OFF" or "Frozen".
  • Isolate group: Turn off all layers that does not in selected filter. Only layers in selected filter are visibility.
    • All viewports: In layout space for all viewports, set all layers that do not include in selected filter to "Frozen viewport". In model space, turn off all layers that do not include in selected filter.
    • Active viewport only:In current layout space for active viewport, set all layers that do not include in selected filter to "Frozen viewport". In model space, turn off all layers that do not include in selected filter.
  • New Properties Filter: Display the "Layer Filter Properties" dialog box, from which users could create layer filter according to layer names and settings( such as, ON or OFF, color or linetype).
  • New Group Filter: Create a new group filter named GROUP FILTER1 and add it to tree view. Users could input a new name for it. In the tree view, selecting "All" or "All used layers" could display layers in list view.
  • Convert to Group Filter: Convert the selected layer property filter to layer group filter. It will not influence the filter after changing the layer properties in group filter.
  • Rename: Rename selected filter. Input a new name for it.

  • Delete: Delete selected layer filter. Users could not delete the following filters: All, All used layers and Xref filters. It could delete the filter rather than layers in it.

  • List view: Display the properties and descriptions of layers and layer filters. Selecting a filter under the tree view, the list view only display all layers of this filter. The "All" filter could display all layers and filters in drawing. If there is no qualified layers in selected filter, the list view displays blank. Users could modify one or all properties of layers in selected filter by click the property icon. If it displays mixture icons or "Multiple" in the layer filter, it means all properties are different in layer filter.

  • Status: Specify types of following options: layer filter, all used layers, empty layer or current layer.
  • Name: Display the name of layer or filter. Pressing F2 to input a new name for it.
  • On: Turn on or off selected layer. It could be visible and users could plot it under on state. It could be invisible and users could not plot it even selected the "plot" option.
  • Freeze: Freeze all layers in all viewports, including model space. Users could improve running speed by freezing when zooming or panning or doing other operations. They could also enhance objects selection performance and reduce regeneration time for complex drawings. Objects on frozen layers could not display, plot, hide, render or regenerate. Users could freeze layers that do not usually use. They could use "ON/OFF" settings to switch their visibility without regenerating drawings. They could also freeze one layer in all viewports, in current layout viewport or new created layout viewport.
  • Lock: Lock or unlock selected layer. Objects on locked layer could not be modified.
  • Color: Change colors that associated with selected layer. Click color name to display the "Select Color" dialog box.
  • Linetype: Change linetypes that associated with selected layer. Click linetype to display the "Select Linetype" dialog box.
  • Lineweight: Change lineweights that associated with selected layer. Click lineweight to display the "Lineweight" dialog box.
  • Plot style: Change plot styles that associated with selected layer. If users selected a plot style associated with color(the PSTYLEPOLICY system variable has set to 1), they could not change the plot style.
  • Plot: Control whether plot selected layer. It could display objects on selected layer, even it has closed the plot function. No matter settings of Plot, it will not plot layers which has been turned off or frozen.
  • New viewport freeze: In new layout viewport, freeze selected layer.
  • VP freeze (only available in layout): In current layout viewport, freeze selected layer. Users could freeze or thaw layers in current viewport, it will not affect layer visibility in other viewports. "Viewport freeze" option could replace the "Thaw" option. It means, if one layer is in Thaw states in a drawing, users could freeze this layer in current viewport; if one layer is in Freeze or OFF states, users could not thaw this layer in current viewport. Under Freeze or OFF states, the layer is invisible.
  • VPcolor (only available in layout): Set the color override that associated with selected layer in active layout viewports.
  • VP linetype (only available in layout): Set the linetype override that associated with selected layer in active layout viewports.
  • VP lineweight (only available in layout): Set the lineweight override that associated with selected layer in active layout viewports.
  • VP Plot Style (only available in layout): Set the plot style override that associated with selected layer in active layout viewports. When the visible style has set to be conceptual or realistic, the override settings will be invisible or unable to plot. If users selected a plot style associated with color (the PSTYLEPOLICY system variable has set to 1), they could not change the plot style.

  • Description: Description about layer or layer filter.

  • Layer shortcut menu:

  • Show Filters Tree: Show the filter tree. Users could hide the tree view by unchecking this option.
  • Show Filters in Layer list: Show filter on the top of layer list. Filters are listed in alphabetical order. Users could only display layers in list view by unchecking this options.
  • Set Current: Set the selected layer to be current. (CLAYER system variable)
  • New Layer: Create a new layer. The name displays as LAYER1. Users could edit its name immediately. The new layer will inherit properties of currently selected layer (such as color, ON or OFF states).
  • Rename Layer: Rename selected layer.
  • Delete Layer: Delete selected layer from drawing file. The referenced layer could not be deleted, including layer 0 and DEFPOINTS, layers with objects (including objects in block definition), current layer and Xref dependent layer.
    Note: if the drawing is created by sharing project or based on a group of layer standards, users should be more careful when deleting layers in the drawing.
  • Change Description: Add description to selected layer or filter or change text in description. The description for filter will be added to it and all layers in it.
  • Remove From Group Filter: Remove selected layer from group filter in tree view.
  • Delete following objects' viewport override: Delete one override or all override properties from selected layer (or all layers) in current viewport or all viewports. It may display different options in pop-up menu according to the position of cross cursor. Right-clicking on one property override to remove it. This option is available in layout space.
  • New Layer VP Frozen in All Viewports: Create a new layer and freeze it in existing layout viewports and new created viewports.
  • VP Freeze Layer in All Viewports: Freeze selected layer in existing viewports and new created viewports.
  • VP Thaw Layers in All Viewports: Thaw selected layer in existing viewports and new created viewports.
  • Isolate Selected Layers: Isolate selected layers.
  • Select All: Select all objects displaying in list view.
  • Clear All: Clear the selection states for all objects in list view except the last time selected layer or filter.
  • Select All but Current: Select all objects displaying in list view except the currently selected layer.
  • Invert Selection: Select all objects displaying in list view except the currently selected one.
  • Invert Layer Filter: Display all layers that unqualify the conditions in selected layer properties filter.
  • Layer Filters: Display the layer filter list( including "All" and "All used layers"). Clicking the filter to apply it to list view.
  • Save Layer States…: Display the "New Layer State to Save" dialog box, from which users could save all layer states and layer properties settings in drawing.
  • Restore Layer State…: Display the "Layer States Manager" dialog box, from which users could select one named layer state to restore all layer settings. It could only restore selected layer states and properties settings.
